The Oasis Foundation, in partnership with the Advocacy of the Kyrgyz Republic, conducted trainings for pro-bono lawyers, human rights defenders on providing high-quality legal protection to victims of human trafficking through the use of trauma-informed and gender-sensitive approaches.
During the training, the participants learned the methodology of investigating criminal cases related to human trafficking, learned about the procedural capabilities of a lawyer. A special emphasis in the trainings was also paid to the protection of the rights of victims of forced crime and sexual exploitation related to drug trafficking.
Since victims of human trafficking often experience serious mental problems as a result of violence and abuse, the trainings included sessions on a trauma-informed approach to working with victims. Tirza Schneider, an international expert in the field of psychology and protection of the rights of victims of human trafficking, shared her experience in working with vulnerable migrants, victims, taught techniques for conducting sensitive interviews.
The main purpose of this event is to activate the role of pro-bono lawyers, human rights defenders in providing high-quality legal protection to victims of human trafficking.
This event was held within the framework of the project “Providing legal assistance to victims of human trafficking and strengthening partnerships with non-governmental organizations and government agencies” with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
